Lads in Their Hundreds

The war musical Lads in Their Hundreds starts off at the beginning of the First World War, when young Lads leave their families behind to go to war fighting for their country. The women stay at home waiting and knitting while the soldiers fight in the trenches. Other than showing that war is pure horror for everybody involved, the show also creates connections to what was going on in the Iraq and Afghanistan war and makes the thematic very up to date. Director Iain Burnside has not only used some well known songs out of Butterworth's A Shropshire Lad, but has also included some musical theatre numbers and the welsh hymn All through The Night.
